Here are some 2024 posts from Executive Director Trudy Marshall on our Facebook page updating what our supporters have provided in Uganda and Kenya.

February 6 – Today I met Loving (6th grade) and her brother, Samuel (Baby class) as they were going home because of school fees. I am VERY thankful that when I see kids like this I can just say – let’s go back to school. I then pay fees, as well as buy sweaters or uniforms. May God bless our donors who make this possible! You truly change lives!

February 9 – They are just saying thank you! I had a librarian keep track of kids with the worst holes in their uniforms or sweaters. Today these happy students received new ones!

February 22 – Wonderful to see my nephew’s wife, Melissa, in action today. Several years ago she founded Mercy for Mamas in Uganda. They meet with hundreds of ladies each year to teach about before and after birth care, provide ultrasounds, and give away ‘mama kits’ which include everything for giving birth. Such amazing work!
Pictured with her is Billy, one of our college graduates, who works with Melissa. Melissa originally came to Uganda with Libraries of Love. So proud of her and also proud of Billy.

March 6 – Many of you remember Jennifer. She and her three kids were locked in a hut by a man who owed her money. He poured gasoline over the hut and then lit it. Jennifer was burned from the face down. Gift, on the right, had many bad burns. I read about it in the paper. We all joined together to help her. I took her to Kampala in an ambulance and after several months she was good. A true miracle! God bless Jennifer, and God bless all those who donated as she fought to survive. I had a great time with her and her family today!

March 12 – A MIRACLE! Last year Mufadi was scheduled to have his left leg amputated the next morning. He had two breaks below the knee. The mother had no money for surgery. The doctors said the breaks would get infected – so better to cut the leg off. Some of the guys ask me to go to the hospital. Many of you pitched in to help pay for surgery. Mufadi’s leg is fine. He doesn’t even have a limp. God bless those who helped. A true miracle.

Human: March 23 This man passed in front of my boda today. I told Tony to turn around. The man has had elephantiasis for four years. I took him to the best hospital and we have an appointment to see a specialist on Monday. Abumery has had this disease since he was 36. I’m praying there is something that can be done.

March 27 – I sent money to buy a wheelchair in Kampala and had Herbert bring it for Zoey in the village. Her grandmother is a neighbor of mine. Zoey has cerebral palsy and is getting heavy for the grandmother to move around. The wheelchair will be a blessing. God bless those who donate so I can do good deeds for others. Awesome people! Awesome God!

April 2 – So many needs. After four hours at the doctor’s today the doctor told us Eva had previously had an ear infection in both ears. Now both eardrums are ruptured. She will take medicine and then probably need surgery. A sponsored in Kenya, Leah, has the same problem. Tomorrow Abumery, the man with the big leg, is coming so we can take him to a specialist.

April 4 – UPDATE: We spent the entire day at the hospital with Abumery . Ten doctors met and examined him. Reducing the leg will take more than one surgery. They don’t want to cut nerves or muscles. The first surgery is Tuesday. They hope with this surgery to reduce the leg one third. By the end of the year it should be a normal size. 🙏 🙏 So thankful we provide humanitarian aid as well as libraries!

April 9 – Abumery checked in the hospital today, but now they say the surgery will be Thursday or Friday.

April 15 – Mercy is one of our sponsored. Her teachers all say she is a genius. I visited her home, pictured on the right, a few days ago. The floor inside is dirt and was getting wet. Today we were able to add a couple iron sheets and seal the rest. So glad we could help. She’s a beautiful young lady.

April 27 – Mattresses are headed for Maasai sponsored kids’ homes! Sheets and blankets also.

April 30 – These precious people have become my close friends. When I would spend time with Abumery, I would also spend time with them. I’m so glad God put each one in my life and so thankful we could help them with medicines, wraps, and food. Blessings to those who help us as we pass it forward. I’m in tears thinking about these wonderful people.

May 5 – UPDATE: Grace’s home is looking beautiful! They still have to finish some painting on the outside and put another coat on the inside walls. We’re thinking she can move in in a week or two! Next, they will start building the latrine!

May 7 – UPDATE MUSA’S: From no furniture to two love seats and a chair. From sleeping on worn-out foam on the floor to a comfortable bed! Amazing! Praising God for changing lives.

May 8 – UPDATE GRACE’S: Furniture was delivered today. Three single beds plus living room. They didn’t have a kitchen table so she asked for a coffee table. From a falling down home and furniture that had so many termites it will need to be burned to a safe beautiful home. THANKS from beautiful Grace! Blessings to you for blessing her!

May 15 – UPDATES: ABUMERY had endless staples taken out of his leg today. As of Friday he is to leave the wrap off. He will return to the hospital in July.
ANNET: Annet had surgery on both eyes. She can see some better. Soon she will have surgery on her nose.
JAMES- James got to go home for a few days. A problem is that he is a motorcycle taxi driver and can’t work now. He has three kids. He goes back to be checked tomorrow. Very thankful we could help these people.

June 1- UPDATE: I was at the hospital today with Abumery. He’s still having some small leakage where his leg was previously stapled together. It bothers me when everyone stares at his leg. Sad!

June 3 – UPDATE MUSA: It’s a wrap! Musa sent the following note to thank those who donated for their new home. I love his heart for God. Please read.
“Truly Mum ll, it’s like I’m in a dream. Sometimes when I see everything at home, the tears come out. I don’t have words. Thank you and the donors for making the dream become a reality.
Mum also can’t believe our new reality. I see her on her knees thanking God.
We were in a bad house, leaking house, mud coming from the ground with cold wind passing through the walls. On my knees also with a grateful heart I thank you Mum ll and all those that gave their support to build us a house. It still seems a dream but I’m so thankful it’s a reality. May God bless all those that made this possible.

June 7 – Pictured are four Mbale street children that sleep on the streets. Today I told them to follow me. We went to a clothing store and I bought each two outfits, underwear, socks and shoes. A funny: The dressing rooms were full so they just stripped in the store though they had no underwear. Afterwards I took them for a big meal. Last, each received a hug! I wish I could change their lives permanently 🥲

June 10 – IMPORTANT: We have a library in the men’s prison near my village. The guys read constantly. With over 1,500 mostly young prisoners they have only one ancient sewing machine to do repairs and make new uniforms 1st picture). I can get a new treadle machine (2nd picture) for $125. I can get one that is a treadle and electric for $198 (3rd)
I would love to put in many, many machines so the young men could be trained and have a vocation when they are released. Would you like to help? If so, donate through Libraries of Love and mark it for sewing machines.

June 12 – Hallelujah! Altogether we delivered six new electric / treadle sewing machines to the prison, plus one just treadle. They were SO thankful. God bless those who donated! The inmates were cheering! Their smiles said it all!
***They won’t let you take pictures of inmates.

June 14 – This man went to the front of the church to become a Christian on Sunday. Later I passed him when I was on a boda. I asked the driver to turn around and went back to talk to the man. Eric contracted polio at 7 years. I asked how I could help. He said he wanted a 3-wheeler (like a wheelchair chair but with an extra wheel in front). It moves by rotating the handle bars with your hands. Eric will pick up his new 3-wheeler on Saturday.

June 29 – Here in Maasai, the homes (manyattas) are built by women. They put up the structure and then mix dung and mud to smear on the walls and ceiling. It is actually considered a good home by many as it is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Jennifer, a sponsored, will soon have a new home built by her mother (pictured).

July 16 – We were happy to provide new uniforms for these Kenyan students all who had big tears or holes in theirs. Happy kids! Paying our donors kindness forward.

August 1 – The three homes in Kenya that replaced the cow dung / mud homes in which our sponsored were living are completely finished. Each has a living room and two bedrooms. Each bedroom has a new bed.

Sept 3: UPDATE: Abumery was to have surgery today. After traveling the seven hours to the hospital by motorcycle taxi, then bus, and finally Herbert, he was told the doctor was out of the country and delayed. He was to go home and come back next week. This is the same thing that happened last week. Crazy! I searched and have found the doctor’s phone number. Next time she will get a call before he goes.

Sept 7: UPDATE: The surgery yesterday took 4-5 hours then two hours in recovery. Eva was sent home today and will return Wednesday for a checkup. The doctor said the surgery was a success. Her ear is stuffed with cotton so we don’t know yet how much her hearing has improved.
